Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

Broadly speaking, the work at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering focuses on the fields of materials and mechanical analysis, innovative product development and manufacturing. Our activities include education, basic research and applied research as well as research and development programmes directed at industry. Thus, we expressly aim at developing and teaching technologies that will be in demand in the future. In addition, we operate in close collaboration with leading Danish and international industrial partners, research institutions and universities.

Potential areas of collaboration

Working with us will give companies and organisations access to the latest research and our many competences within areas such as:

  • Mechanics of materials and materials science
  • Mechanics and design of structures, including acoustics and vibration
  • Computer-aided engineering, design and product development
  • Automisation and manufacturing technology
  • Logistics and manufacturing systems

Within these competence areas, our major research areas include:

  • Polymers and polymer-based composite materials
  • Materials characterisation
  • Nanomaterials and production
  • Mechanics
  • Computational mechanics and optimization
  • Design of lightweight structures and systems
  • Biomechanics and ergonomics
  • Virtual processing
  • Product and system design
  • Industrial processes and automation
  • Robotics
  • Processing

  • Intelligent manufacturing

How can we help you?

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering offers many opportunities for collaboration and
partners with SMEs as well as larger companies and organisations. The amount of resources a company invests
in the collaboration can of course vary and therefore the department offers different opportunities:

  • Joint research projects
  • Industrial PhDs
  • Consultancy
  • Student projects

Among other things, we can assist you with:

  • Analysis, measuring or technological support (on consultancy basis)
  • Systems for quality control
  • Manufacturing and materials control
  • Construction management
  • Finances and manufacturing
  • Technology management
  • Product, process and production design
  • Management of manufacturing processes
  • Optimisation and development of existing products and product groups

Selected prior collaboration topics:

  • Design with new materials
  • Design of new mechanical systems
  • Design of sports equipment
  • Ergonomically correct work conditions
  • Elimination of noise-generation from mechanical sources
  • Design of new production systems
  • Design and analysis of products and product portfolio

Industry knowledge

Our competences cover a wide range, as shown above.
In particular, we have experience working with:

  • Machinery manufacturers
  • Wind turbine manufacturers
  • Sports equipment manufacturers
  • The healthcare sector
  • The transport sector
  • Traditional industry
  • Processing industry
  • The armed forces
  • The public sector

However, there are essentially no limits as to the lines of business we can collaborate with, as our research covers
a very wide field.
