Computer Science

The focal point of the research taking place in Depart- ment of Computer Science is the interaction between human activity and computers, and the link between these two is programming and programming languages. Consequently, we do a lot of work within software development as well as within design and implementation of different programming languages. In addition, we work within the development and utilisation of IT in general.

All our collaborative activities are based on the challenges and problems the industry faces. When we collaborate with business and industry, we establish a close connection between the theories and methods that we develop and use and the reality and practical solutions that are the aim of the collaboration.

Machine intelligence

  • The work within this field focuses on theories and methods for computer-based support for decisionmaking under uncertainty – in other words, programmes etc. that can help a person make the right decisions under difficult circumstances where that person has insufficient or uncertain information. We thus also work with artificial intelligence that enables machines to assess and in some cases act on the basis of the gathered data – and to provide the person controlling the machine with the best possible basis for making the optimal decisions in the given situation.
